In the 20-second video, Brees simply recites one of his favorite Bible verses and encourages students to bring their Bibles to school to share God’s love. “One of my favorite verses in the Bible is 2 Corinthians 5:7, ‘For we live by faith, not by sight,’” Brees says in the clip. “So I want to encourage you to live out your faith on Bring Your Bible to School Day and share God’s love with friends. British Airways cancels virtually all flights on day one of pilot strike

More walkouts planned over pay dispute, with no resolution in sight The start of a 48-hour walkout by British Airways pilots forced the national carrier to cancel virtually all flights on Monday, with no sign of a resolution ahead of more planned strikes. Heathrow Terminal 5, BAs main operating hub, was almost deserted, when it would normally be bustling with passengers. BA carries about 145,000 passengers on an average day. Only five BA flights were expected to operate out of about 800 that would normally be scheduled after its first ever strike, called by the union Balpa in a long-running pay dispute. Two of the flights were leases, where the plane and crew are hired under another operator, and the …

How to stream Germany vs. Netherlands in a key Euro 2020 qualifier

Germany had a less-than-satisfactory 2018 World Cup. They were one of the consensus tournament favorites, but couldnt get out of the group stages, and went home with plenty of questions about what went wrong. You could say, though, that the Netherlands 2018 World Cup was even worse. They missed out on qualifying altogether, failing to advance out of a group that sent eventual champions France and surprise quarterfinalists Sweden through. Both teams are trying to recover from those disappointments with a key Group C matchup in Germany on Friday but both teams currently trail Northern Ireland in the standings and only two teams from each group advance to Euro 2020. Heres everything you need to know to live stream Germany …

Related to the fall, he had been battling medical issues for quite some time more recently. Up until the …

Looks like Medium is testing a way to save articles across the web

Medium seems to be building a tool to save and reformat online articles for future reading. That’s according to Jane Manchun Wong, a reliable source of scoops on unreleased features. Wong said she spotted this one by reverse engineering Medium’s Android app and monitoring network traffic. The “Save to Medium” feature appears to scrape web pages, then create a new, unlisted story on Medium. If deployed, it would mean Medium becomes not just a publishing platform, but also a product like Instapaper, which you could use to read content from around the web. It also involves stripping the content of the publisher’s ads and moving it out from behind their paywalls. That doesn’t sound too different from existing reader apps …

Let this be the last (plastic) straw debate

(CNN)Dear Democrats — please, for the love of the planet (and for the love of disabled Americans), stop talking about plastic straws. At the CNN Climate Crisis Town Hall on Wednesday, 10 Democratic candidates for president spoke powerfully about the need to transform the way we live on this planet in order to preserve civilization as we know it. Even as climate deniers continue to run the Republican Party, Democratic consensus on the threat has never been more clear. All of our efforts and political will have to address the big structural picture of how we power our world and who does and does not pay for the pollution we spill out across the land, earth, and sky. For the …

Person Tries Drawing His Dog, Accidentally Starts Creating Masterpieces

You never know just what is going to go viral in this crazy internet world. You could spend months creating something amazing, using all your passion, skill and patience, and receive nothing but a collective ‘meh’ in return. Or, you could doodle a quick outline of your goofy dog and find yourself on the front page of publications everywhere. This is Jay’s goofy dog Stanley This is what happened to Jay Cartner, who has actually been drawing and painting for 25 years. Turns out their most popular works, the ones that people truly relate to, are the kind you would find on a napkin, or the margins of a school book! “My husband, Grady, and I have 3 retired racing …

NY attorney general will lead antitrust investigation into Facebook

New York Attorney General Letitia James announced this morning that she’s leading an investigation into Facebook over antitrust issues — in other words, whether Facebook used its social media dominance to engage in anti-competitive behavior. In a statement, James said: Even the largest social media platform in the world must follow the law and respect consumers. I am proud to be leading a bipartisan coalition of attorneys general in investigating whether Facebook has stifled competition and put users at risk. We will use every investigative tool at our disposal to determine whether Facebook’s actions may have endangered consumer data, reduced the quality of consumers’ choices, or increased the price of advertising. According to the announcement, that coalition includes the attorneys …

According to local law enforcement, there have been at least two reports of cocaine being washed ashore in the aftermath of the hurricane, the first in Melbourne’s Paradise Beach Park. At 8am local time, an officer on foot patrol was informed of a suspicious package by a …

Could language be the key to detecting fake news? | David Shariatmadari

Purveyors of disinformation can be caught out by the particular words they use, says Guardian writer and editor David Shariatmadari The internet represents the biggest explosion of data in human history. Theres more out there, and more access to it than ever before. The information ecosystem is a bit like a tropical rainforest: luxuriant, dense and fiercely competitive. As such, it contains its fair share of predators and poisonous plants. Deliberately misleading articles, websites and social media posts can come about for lots of different reasons: they might be trying to influence elections or policies; they might represent a form of cyberwarfare between states; they might be aimed at raising someones profile and influence, or discrediting their opponents. Or they …

Trump’s Assistant Forced To Resign For Spilling Trump Family Tea | Betches

The Trump Administration loses its staff members more frequently than I lose my headphones, which would be impressive if American politics weren’t at stake. Trump's personal assistant and once-trusted aide, Madeleine Westerhout, reportedly resigned after the president discovered she shared details about the Trump family and Oval Office operations, according to the NY Times. https://t.co/in1hvLdgeU — HuffPost Politics (@HuffPostPol) August 30, 2019 The most recent resignation comes from someone who lacks top billing in the administration but has worked with Trump since his election — his personal assistant. Madeleine Westerhout has abruptly left her position as Executive Assistant to the president after sources found that she had an off-the-record dinner with reporters, where she spilled the tea on intimate details …
