Oh Good, Boston Dynamics Has Robots Doing Parkour Now

In this incredible demonstration by Boston Dynamics’ robot, Atlas, we see the machine executing a series of gymnastic/parkour maneuvers. Boston Dynamics adds: Atlas uses its whole body — legs, arms, torso — to perform a sequence of dynamic maneuvers that form a gymnastic routine. We created the maneuvers using new techniques that streamline the development process. First, an optimization algorithm transforms high-level descriptions of each maneuver into dynamically-feasible reference motions.   Then Atlas tracks the motions using a model predictive controller that smoothly blends from one maneuver to the next. Using this approach, we developed the routine significantly faster than previous Atlas routines, with a performance success rate of about 80%. Original Article : HERE ; The Ultimate Survival Food: …

Some locations are Instagram gold. This app helps you find them.

New York (CNN Business)Wonder Bar in Austin is basically an Instagram playground. It has it all: bright yellow banana swings, a bathtub filled with rubber duckies, a rideable unicorn and neon signs galore that say things like “Head in the clouds” and “Searching for Uranus.” But on one quick day trip to Sedona, Arizona, in 2017, Aneloski didn’t have time to find nearby photo locations. That’s when she got the idea to streamline the “location scouting process for creatives,” she told CNN Business. The app is for people who make money off their social media posts, also known as influencers or content creators, as well as millennials who want to find unique — and social media friendly — places while …

This Crazy Tech Can Turn Anybody in a Photo Into a Moving Animation

Photo Wake-Up is a research project by Chung-Yi Weng, Brian Curless, and Ira Kemelmacher-Shlizerman of the University of Washington. Per their paper’s abstract: We present a method and application for animating a human subject from a single photo. E.g., the character can walk out, run, sit, or jump in 3D. The key contributions of this paper are: 1) an application of viewing and animating humans in single photos in 3D, 2) a novel 2D warping method to deform a posable template body model to fit the person’s complex silhouette to create an animatable mesh, and 3) a method for handling partial self occlusions. We compare to state-of-the-art related methods and evaluate results with human studies. Further, we present an interactive …

Image: google / mashable composite The next version of Android Q is currently in development with regular beta releases appearing for early adopters. The latest beta release has revealed an interesting new feature in the form of car crash detection by your smartphone. As XDA Developers reports, Android Q Beta 3 was launched during the Google I/O 2019 event last week. Since then, the code has been delved into to see what’s new, and one feature that’s being tested takes the form of an app called “Safety Hub.” Further investigation reveals Google is attempting to get Android devices to detect when a car crash has occurred, it’s also set to be a Pixel-exclusive feature if it makes it out of …
